This weekend was Marshall's first game in the SEC as a quarterback and I think we saw a lot of potential and a lot of room for improvement. So let's take a quick look at the good and the bad from the victory against Wazzou.
(1) Nick has a cannon for an arm. He can really truly make any throw that the coaches ask of him but he needs to learn when to throw the fast ball and when to put more touch on the ball.
(2) Marshall is not Cam Newton and he is not a Manziel at this point. He has all the skills physically to be a nightmare matchup for opposing defenses but I don't think he has the confidence yet as a QB to be that type of gamechanger. If things go well for him in a few games I could see him really improving as he gets more confidence.
(3) In the running game I think he is going to break some really long runs as he gains confidence with his reads in the read option and if our RB's continue to do a solid job.
(4) Another thing that will help is the development of his ball handling on play action and when running the read option. Cam was one of the best I have ever seen at deceiving defenders with that and Marshall needs to watch a lot film on what Cam did.
That said, I think Marshall has a lot of potential to develop but he does still have a long way to go. He is very raw as a QB and needs to learn a lot but he will only get better as the season goes on. I know it's only been 1 game but I think he is a good fit for the future. What do you think?
